Greece: Refugee Crisis in Europe

A refugee crisis is happening in Europe. Urgent and bold action is needed from the Greek government and the European union. Over 100,000 refugees have arrived to Greece by sea this year. UNHCR is mobilizing emergency teams, resources and delivering basic humanitarian assistance in order to address the most urgent gaps and support government efforts. Volunteers, local communities and NGO’s are providing invaluable assistance but they need support. Hear from our colleagues in Lesvos, Greece, who are meeting thousands of refugees every day: “We need to take care of them. We must not forget that this is Europe. Of course the local authorities are responsible, but we are ready to support them, and we are supporting them. This is a village completely run by volunteers.” Information for media: If you would like to use this video to communicate refugee stories or require B-Roll, transcripts, stills or much more information, please contact us at [email protected] or [email protected] — Keep up to date with our latest videos: — UNHCR, the UN refugee agency, works to protect and assist those fleeing war and persecution.
